Benicia Wharf, Benicia, California - A 760-feet long by 81 feet wide section of Amports’ Benicia wharf was destroyed by fire in 2001. The project was to design and construct a replacement for the damaged section of the wharf. The wharf has a concrete deck at near Elevation +14 feet (local MLLW datum). The deck is supported on 24-inch octagonal prestressed concrete piles. An additional row of 24-inch octagonal prestressed concrete piles were placed along the alignment of a possible future rail line. The fender system utilizes 18-inch square prestressed concrete piles.

Hultgren – Tillis Engineers was responsible to review existing geotechnical data, perform site exploration using barge-mounted drilling equipment, develop geotechnical design parameters and foundation recommendations, monitor installation of indicator and production piles, and reviewing dynamic measurements from a pile driving analyzer.
